Japan Launched First Lunar Probe

According to BBC News, Japan has successfully launched the first lunar probe. Japan claims that this is the most important lunar research program since US lunar research program in 60’s and 70’s that included also space walks. The probe was launched from the island of Tanegashima in southern Japan.
Almost 3 tons of weight probe, called Selene, will be positioned 100 kilometers above the Moon surface. Selene will stay on the orbit together with two smaller satellites. According to Japan Space Agency, the mission of Selene is to collect information of the geology, topography and environment.
