Nasa’s Planetquest website writes about the biggest telescope on Earth getting ready for planet-hunting. The Gran Telescopio Canarias is 4% bigger than the previous record holder – the Keck I and II. The first light was seen on July 13th. and the telescope has already been tested. The real work with the telescope starts on next year.
This huge telescope is used in the search for exoplanets. It has 36 hexagonal mirrors and the dome housing the telescope is 100 feet wide. Read more about this news from the Planetquest.
