In February we asked “Do You Believe in Extraterrestrial Intelligence?”. It is time to look at the results of this poll, but first please check out the results of our January’s poll results. In January we asked “What Equipment You Use When Observing The Sky?”. Now the results of February’s poll.
It is clear that majority of the readers of HomeboyAstronomy.Com believe that there is life outside of our planet. According to the poll, 78% of the readers believe there are other forms of life somewhere in the universe. “Yes, we are not alone” got 32 votes out of 41. It is no wonder that people think like this. The universe is so huge that many people believe we cannot be a unique form of life. Anyhow, if this question was asked in a non-science website, the result would probably be much different. Anyhow, the result was pretty much like I expected.
Even though most readers think that there is life outside the Earth, 20% of the votes were given to “No, there is no life outside the Earth“. This choice got 8 votes out of 41. There are lots of people who just cannot believe that there is extraterrestrial life. People think we are unique and and only ones here on Earth. Many amateur astronomers tend to think that “yes, the space is so big that there must be life out there”, but still we have no evidence of other forms of life than the life on Earth.
One vote out of 41 votes was given to “what is extraterrestrial intelligence“, which means the person has probably not understood what the question means. Shortly said, extraterrestrial intelligence means life originating outside of Earth. This choice received 2% of all the given votes.

well, we’d rather see that to believe.
I believe that a comet will strike the earth – someday. But I’m not afraid. I think the odds are in our favor that if it happens it will be way out in the future.
I wish that I could have found your blog in time to get in on the last question. Because my position is “Yes” on the life outside of earth question. Life on earth is absolute proof that given the right circumstances, life will emerge.

Thank you for your comment, Swubird. I agree with you. The probability of a comet strike is high, but not during our lifetime. In fact my question should be “are you afraid of a comet strike during your lifetime?”. I need to change it..
Very many people agree with you. 78% of those who answered my question believe on extraterrestrial life. This is a very interesting topic. Probably we won’t get evidence of extraterrestrial life during my lifetime. If yes, it would really rock the world.

The truth is that: since pinciple, humanity gave a credence about THE LIFE OUTSIDE due the first signal of water probality in some millions os years ago. But there’s going a question: WHAT WILL THIS CHANGE AND GIVE UD BENEFIT IN OUR DAYLI LIFE?
