Would You Like to be Buried in the Moon?

31 March 2008 5 Comments

Your Last Place in the Moon?American company called Celestis provides you a chance to be buried in the Moon. The first launch is scheduled to happen on next year. Price for this last journey is $9995. For this price 1 g of your ash can be transferred to the Moon. The price includes also a name plate.

This is not the first time the company has provided the possibility to be buried in the Moon. One of the earlier “clients” have been the comet hunter Eugene Shoemaker. His ash capsule was launched with Prospector probe. In 1999 the probe was directed to crash in the southern pole of the Moon. By this Eugene Shoemaker became the fist man whose remaining are up in the sky.

Celestis has also sent satellites carrying people’s ash to the orbit of the Moon. This is questionable because every additional satellite is acts as a security risk for rocket launches. These satellites can also be considered as space debris because they have no scientific purpose.

Well, there are people who really want to get buried in the Moon. One example is Eugene Shoemaker, as mentioned in the post. Anyhow, I want to on Earth :)

Well, honestly said, I don’t know. I prefer staying on Earth, so I don’t know what makes people to want to be buried on Moon.
