Welcome to HomeboyAstronomy.Com - a Blog that helps beginners and amateur astronomers to observe the nightsky.
My name is Marko Pyhajarvi and I write HomeboyAstronomy.Com to help beginners and fellow amateur astronomers in learning astronomy and observing the stars and other interesting objects. I started this blog in Autumn 2007 because I wanted to interact with amateur astronomers and help people to progress with this great hobby. I work as a software engineer and project manager here in Finland, and I am interested in astronomy, skiing, mountain biking and music. Why HomeboyAstronomy.Com?
Many years ago I stumbled upon an interesting article of astronomy. I had been interested in astronomy before that, but that article got me interested a bit more and I started to read some astronomy books. I realized how huge and wonderful the universe is and how much there are objects to observe. I was very excited about all that. Since those days I have been interested in observing the sky above.
In addition to all other hobbies, I am also interested in writing. I enjoy writing articles and lyrics, and by writing my astronomy blog I can combine these two passions. My biggest motivation in writing HomeboyAstronomy.Com is to share what I know in order to help people observing the sky. That is why this blog contains much “howto” articles, such as How To Find Orion Nebula.
So what is Homeboy?
“Homeboy” can be understood as “a hometown boy, a close friend”. A close person of mine called me homeboy some time ago. The name of this blog and my skiing blog comes from there.
